Private truck driving companies and schools in Rhode Island provide would-be truck drivers with invaluable driving experience and knowledge. In driving school, you will learn everything you need to know in order to safely and legally operate a commercial big rig. Topics include how to conduct pre-trip inspections, air brake use, and operating a commercial truck, just to name a few.

The schools provide only the instruction and teaching – they do not administer the actual testing of the commercial drivers. The exams are given and administered solely by the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles.

If you would like to begin a truck driving career in Rhode Island, you should begin by consulting the Rhode Island CDL manual, which covers everything that you will be tested on. Once you feel prepared, you will schedule the written test and upon successful completion, you will be given a CDL permit. This is when you should enroll in an accredited Rhode Island truck driving school; they will help you fully prepare for the driving test and obtain your CDL.
